Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, Norfolk, VA
Joshua Solomon is an award-winning glass artist. His works can be found in galleries and private collections internationally. He was born in Oceanside, NY and received a BA in Studio Arts from Bard College. In 1999, while visiting Santa Barbara, CA, a serendipitous encounter with a self-described gypsy led to his introduction to glassblowing.
In 2001, concurrent with his studies at Bard, Joshua began an apprenticeship with glass artist Barry Entner in Rhinebeck, NY. In 2007, Joshua moved to Staunton, VA to further explore his own designs and work with glass artist Minh Martin. During this period, Joshua had the opportunity to hone his craft while exploring a broad variety of styles and techniques.
With his move to Norfolk, VA, in June of 2011, Joshua became focused on exploring ways to create texture on glass through engraving. 2012 marked Joshua’s entry into a community of artists working in the Chrysler Museum’s glass studio.
Ever inquisitive and curious, Joshua uses glassblowing as an avenue for inquiry. His love of the material and passion for exploration is channeled into his work through form, color and texture. His acclaimed use of color has been cultivated through years of experimentation. Through carving Joshua introduces nuanced textures that add visual weight and complexity to his work. Finished works are easily accessible and enjoyed by peoples of all ages, backgrounds and planetary origins. His colors and textures are inspired by his knowledge of the natural world and passion for the fantastic.
